“Then some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, came to Him…” (Luke 20:27)
“Then some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, came to Him…” (Luke 20:27)
The Sadducees were an ultra-liberal religious group of Jews who, like many Christians of today, would decidedly pick and choose what they did and didn’t want to believe regarding their Faith. Since they did not believe in angels, the existence of Hell, and denied life after death, when they approached Christ with a question about the resurrection, they revealed their own inability to discern Holy Scripture. Still, this incident from today’s gospel serves to remind us that if God had waited even until now to reveal His Son, Jesus would have been just as unpopular, hated, and rejected by modern man as He was 2000 years ago. Apparently, things have not changed much because man has not changed much!
Fr. John
