In his second letter to the Corinthians, Paul reminds all Christians that we are “ambassadors for Christ” (5:20). The word ambassador means “an official representative,” or a “representative who promotes as an advocate.” Some of the other synonyms are emissary, backer, supporter, upholder, proponent, champion, exponent and campaigner. Yet the very basis for the word ambassador is that it derives from the Latin word, ambactus, meaning “servant.” Thus, to be a true ambassador for Christ, we must first humbly submit to being His servant!
