Keeping Saint Paul's challenge to pray always
Although most of us can’t pray constantly, we can turn our entire day into one continuous prayerful offering by asking the Lord to accept all our good works, and our acts of charity, as prayer. We can even take a few moments throughout the day to utter what are called Arrow Prayers, where we utter short prayers, such as "Lord dispel my darkness", or "Lord Jesus, come into my heart". The Jesus Prayer, the ancient form of prayer used by monks, is also a good way to transform every day into an ever deepening of our faith. "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner."
Our acts of charity, together with these short prayers, can set the tone for our entire day, and help us accomplish Saint Paul's directive to "pray always". We are thus able to dedicate the entire day to God, as we acknowledge our dependency on His, and our desire to ever deepen our relationship with the God Who invites us into communion with him.
Doing so acknowledges that each day is a gift, and allows us to express our gratitude for our blessings and joys. This is the very best habit we can introduce into our daily struggle, and Lent is the perfect time for deepening our commitment to walking daily with Our Lord.
