Touching Christ:
Touching Christ:
In Orthodox worship, the heart is lifted as we sense the nearness of God. His presence is “felt” in our lives. We experience or “touch” Him with all our senses: eyes see beauty of the world, and His House (“I love the beauty of God’s House and the place where His glory dwells” – Psalm 26:8), of God in one another, and read the Word of God. Our ears hear God’s Word, the prayers of those in trouble, in need. We smell the sweetness of the incense before liturgy, before gospel, before offering gifts. To touch one another is to touch God – our Maker and Creator Who made each of us in His Image and Likeness. And when we partake of God through Holy Communion (Eucharist) we “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8).
Fr. John
