Simple vs. Easy
People often confuse simple for easy, especially when it comes to the Christian Faith. God provided us with a simple way to live and behave, yet man was challenged by this. Because of our sinfulness and pride, we try to look for “legal loopholes” which seemingly gives us the right to NOT obey God’s Law – His plan for us.
This is why, after so many years, when Jesus came into the world so many thought His teachings were so radically different…because they were simple. Christ taught the simplicity of love, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness. He taught about the conversion of our hearts. He taught that we should treat others the way we would want to be treated. He taught using the simplest of stories and metaphors (parables) so that ordinary, uneducated people could comprehend the mind of God.
Yet, even though these teachings were simple, they are not easily practiced. The gospel message goes against the grain of this world so that our Lord’s followers must swim against the prevailing currents much like salmon who swim upstream. And this takes effort; an effort that not many are willing to commit to.
