“Remember my chains.” (Colossians 4:18)

“Remember my chains.” (Colossians 4:18)

St. Paul wrote these words over two thousand years ago to people who have long since gone. Yet they continue to remind us that this mighty apostle suffered greatly for his efforts in proclaiming the Gospel teachings of Jesus Christ. Besides the hardship of continuous travel, Paul was hounded, threatened, persecuted, and oppressed everywhere he went. He was met with resistance, thrown into jail, beaten with rods, and stoned on occasion. Yet he bore the cost of his apostleship gladly. Thus, “Remember my chains” becomes a motto we, too, must accept if we truly wish to follow Christ.

Fr. John
