είναι δυνατόν αυτό να συγχωρεθεί; Πώς είναι δυνατόν να δικαιολογηθεί;

STATEMENT ON MUNICIPAL THREATS AND THE DISCRIMINATORY “CHURCH LANDS BILL”
STATEMENT ON MUNICIPAL THREATS AND THE DISCRIMINATORY
“CHURCH LANDS BILL”
25/02/2018
We, the Heads of Churches in charge of the Holy
Sepulchre and the Status Quo governing the various Christian Holy Sites in
Jerusalem – the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, the Custody of the Holy Land and
the Armenian Patriarchate – are following with great concern the systematic
campaign against the Churches and the Christian community in the Holy Land, in
flagrant violation of the existing Status Quo.
Recently, this systematic and offensive campaign has
reached an unprecedented level as the Jerusalem Municipality issued scandalous
collection notices and orders of seizure of Church assets, properties and bank
accounts for alleged debts of punitive municipal taxes. A step that is contrary
to the historic position of the Churches within the Holy City of Jerusalem and
their relationship with the civil authorities. These actions breach existing
agreements and international obligations which guarantee the rights and the
privileges of the Churches, in what seems as an attempt to weaken the Christian
presence in Jerusalem. The greatest victims in this are those impoverished
families who will go without food and housing, as well as the children who will
be unable to attend school.
The systematic campaign of abuse against Churches and
Christians reaches now its peak as a discriminatory and racist bill that
targets solely the properties of the Christian Community in the Holy Land is
being promoted. This abhorrent bill is set to advance today in a meeting of a
ministerial committee which if approved, would make the expropriation of the
lands of Churches possible. This reminds us all of laws of a similar nature which
were enacted against the Jews during dark periods in Europe.
This systematic and unprecedented attack against
Christians in the Holy Land severely violates the most basic, ab antique and
sovereign rights, trampling on the delicate fabric of relations between the
Christian Community and the authorities for decades.
Therefore, and recalling the statement of the
Patriarchs and Heads of Local Churches in Jerusalem, dated 14 February, 2018
and their previous statement of September 2017, as a measure of protest, we
decided to take this unprecedented step of closure of the Church of the Holy
Sepulchre.
Together with all Heads of Churches in the Holy Land
we stand united, firm and resolute in protecting our rights and our properties.
May the Holy Spirit answer our prayers and bring a
resolution to this historic Crisis in our Holy City.
THEOPHILOS III Patriarch of Jerusalem
FRANCESCO PATTON Custos of the Holy Land

Forgiveness and Love.
Forgiveness and Love
The capacity to forgive and the capacity to love
The capacity to forgive is directly related to the
capacity to love, and it is in our act of forgiving others, that we find
forgiveness. For it is in the turning away from our own self-concern, and our
own self-will, that we begin to see that our salvation is directly linked to
the salvation of our neighbor. To refuse to forgive our neighbor, is do cease
having the capacity to love, “for he who does not love his brother whom he has
seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen (1 John 4:20)?”
The ability to forgive others requires work on our
part, for we must cooperate with the grace that comes as a gift of the Holy
Spirit. Since we have been forgiven much, we, in turn, must forgive much. The
Lord Himself told us that we must forgive our brother seventy times seventy, no
easy feat, to be sure. Yet it is this same Lord Who gives us the power, and the
will, to be quick to forgive those who have hurt or offended us. It is this
very Christ Who demonstrated the importance of forgiving others, when He
forgave those who were crucifying Him. “Lord, forgive them, for they know not
what they do (Luke 23:34).”

love in Christ,

Fasting for the right reasons. Abbot Tryphon
Fasting
Fasting for the right reasons
The Lord condemned the Pharisee, not because he
fasted, but because his motivation was based on pride. The Pharisee wished to
be seen by men, and he had no fear of God. He dared to stand before the Lord in
pride and arrogance, while the Publican stood afar off, beating his breast,
begging for the Lord’s mercy. Whereas the Publican saw his sins, and repented,
the Pharisee stood before the Lord in arrogance, thinking he was better than
other men. He did not desire to commune with God, but to be honored by men.
As we observe the Great Lenten fast, let us imitate
the Publican, who saw himself as the worst of sinners, and who begged God’s
forgiveness. Let us keep the fast, not to be seen by others, but to make way
for the Lord. Let us shun meat, dairy, and fish, because we love God, and
desire to be drawn closer to Him, emptying ourselves of earthly pleasures.
Let us embrace the Fast as an opportunity for
self-limitation, abstinence and self-emptying. Let us bear the cross in
self-crucifixion, dying to self as we put on Christ. We dare not think we are
Christians if we refuse to fast, for bearing our cross is the only way we can
be true followers of Christ.
Let us embrace the fast, knowing, “fasting appears
gloomy until one steps into its arena. But begin and you will see what light it
brings after darkness, what freedom from bonds, what release after a burdensome
life… (Saint Theophan the Recluse).”
Finally, let us be mindful that, “fasts and vigils,
the study of Scripture, renouncing possessions and everything worldly are not
in themselves perfection, as we have said; they are its tools. For perfection
is not to be found in them; it is acquired through them. It is useless,
therefore, to boast of our fasting, vigils, poverty, and reading of Scripture
when we have not achieved the love of God and our fellow men. Whoever has
achieved love has God within himself and his intellect is always with God (St
John Cassian).”

The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts. Abbot Tryphon
The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts
Communing from the Body and Blood of the Master during
the period of spiritual combat
The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts is attributed
to Saint Gregory the Dialogist († 604), Pope of Rome, but in actuality, it is
not the work of one individual, but is a composite work coming down to us from
Holy Tradition.
The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, which consists
of the Service of Vespers and the Communion of the Faithful with the Holy
Gifts. It is commonly celebrated daily in monastic communities, and on
Wednesdays and Fridays in parishes, with Holy
Bread—that is, the Body of
Christ—which has been intincted in the Holy Blood and consecrated at the
preceding complete Liturgies on Saturdays or Sundays. The Presanctified or
“abridged” Divine Liturgy (since it is affixed to Vespers), is normally
celebrated in the late afternoon, when Christians, having fasted until that
time, commune, afterwards eating a meal of dry foodstuffs (dried fruits and
nuts).
The celebration of the Divine Liturgy, because it is
festive and Resurrectional in character, is not allowed during Great Lent and
the somber period of the fast, according to ancient tradition and the
forty-ninth Canon of the Synod of in Laodiceia [336]. However, from their side,
the faithful children of the Church, engaged in the abstemious struggle of the
Great Fast and having a clear and particular need for reinforcement by the Holy
Mysteries during this period of intensive spiritual combat, desired to commune
as often as they could, since Holy Communion was indeed their life and
sustenance.
For this reason, so that the faithful not be deprived
of the Holy Eucharist on the weekdays of the Great Fast, but that they might be
able to commune from the Presanctified Holy Bread [the Body of Christ], the Church,
by way of the fifty-first Canon of the Fifth-Sixth [Quinisext] Synod [692],
appointed that the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts take place on the
weekdays of the Great Fast.
Saint Nikodemos the Hagiorite [† 1809], in his Rudder,
citing the Byzantine canonologist Matthew Blastaris [fl. 14th cenury], reminds
us that the faithful resemble wrestlers, and just as wrestlers cease their
matches in the afternoon to take nourishment in order to strengthen themselves
for the upcoming bout, so the faithful commune from the Body and Blood of the
Master during the period of spiritual combat in the Great Fast, that they might
be reinvigorated and reinforced by the Lord, thus to continue their match
against the passions and the spiritual enmity of the devil with renewed powers
and more valorously.

love in Christ,

"Eureka! Eureka!"
Legend has it that a Greek ruler once asked Archimedes
to find a way to test whether a crown was made entirely of gold or whether it
had some silver mixed in it. One day when Archimedes stepped into his bath, he
noticed the water rise when he sat down. All of a sudden, he realized that by
comparing weight to volume, you could determine the density of an object. The
legend says that Archimedes jumped out of his bath and ran naked through the
streets shouting, "Eureka! Eureka!" - meaning "I found it! I
found it!"
The same Greek word is used three times at the
beginning of today's gospel. Jesus finds Philip. Philip finds Nathaniel. And
Philip says to Nathaniel, "We have found him about whom Moses in the law
and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth." The Greek
word is eurisko, the same word from which Archimedes got eureka.
May we also come to truly "find" and know
Christ as we continue through this arduous Lenten Journey via prayer, fasting,
study, and charity!

Ο Josip "Zhila"
Ante Pavelic" (αρχηγός του Κροατικού Ναζιστικού κράτους μαριονέτα) για να
