However, regardless of how we come to know Christ, our faith is not based upon a “moment,” but a “journey.”
Within the New Testament there are those who embraced Jesus immediately, those who were slow to embrace Him, and those who outright rejected Christ. For instance, Pilate could not accept Who Jesus was because Pilate’s world view was dominated by power, ambition, control, status, and material wealth. Thus, Pilate’s heart was blackened and incapable of accepting Christ.
Then there are those who took their time in coming to accept Jesus, such as the Centurion who was guarding the cross. It was only after Christ’s death upon the cross and witnessing all that occurred that he came to terms with Jesus, proclaiming that, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
Perhaps the most famous conversion story is, of course, that of Saul (who later became “Paul”), as he experienced a vision of the Risen Lord on his way to Damascus.
However, regardless of how we come to know Christ, our faith is not based upon a “moment,” but a “journey.”
Fr. John
