Prayer is a manifestation of the image of God in man. No other creature has the ability to pray, and prayer is the means that keeps man in living communion with his God and Creator. By keeping his relationship with God alive through prayer, by constantly invoking the Name of the Lord and bringing before Him all his troubles and concerns, his entire existence, even his very life, he gradually learns to stand in His presence. The presence of God is life-giving, not in the sense that it imparts life to him by prolonging his days, but rather because it imparts to him the abundance of life that makes him incorruptible.
