SAINT PAISIUS WITH THE THEOTOKOS & JESUS
SAINT PAISIUS WITH THE THEOTOKOS & JESUS
A report has come out of Turkey that
a book about the life of St. Paisius has been translated into the Turkish
language and it has become very popular amongst the Turks. It speaks to the secularism that is pervading
their society and it has touched a delicate cord. St. Paisius was a man who had made a
decision to completely abandon the physical world and to focus on the Kingdom
of Heaven. He hardly ever slept. He ate
very little food. The feet on his
personal icons are faded because of his constant reverencing of them. He told
his disciples that we Orthodox Christians should never kiss the icons on the
face of a saint because we are not worthy.
We should always kiss the feet of the icons of Jesus, Mary and of the
saints because we humble ourselves before them. The fruits of his labors
brought the spiritual gifts of discernment, prophecy, miracles and direct
communication with the spiritual world.
He has worked miracles before and after falling asleep in the Lord. Today he stands near the throne of God and
boldly prays for all of us and for our sinful world. The Russian language translation of St.
Paisius has sold five million copies. St. Paisius lived for thirty-one years in
Konitsa, Greece and thirty-seven years on Mt. Athos. He passed on from this fleeting life on July
12, 1994.
