Isaac estuvo involucrado (junto con su padre y hermanos) en la revuelta de Nicea y Prousa pero pese a su fracaso Andrónico I Comneno no le castigó.
El 11 de septiembre de 1185, mientras Andrónico estaba ausente de la capital, su teniente Hagiochristofhorites intentó arrestar a Isaac pero éste mató a Hagiochristophorites y se refugió en Hagia Sophia.
Andrónico tenía muchos enemigos entre los habitantes pues aunque capaz fue a veces cruel. Isaac se ganó el favor del pueblo y así comenzó una revuelta en Constantinopla contra la autoridad de Andrónico, que al volver vio que Isaac se había proclamado emperador y que la ciudad estaba en su contra. El antiguo emperador intentó huir pero fue apresado, entregado a la multutud, torturado y fue públicamente humillado y asesinado de la forma más cruel imaginable el 12 de septiembre de 1185.

Isaac was involved (along with his father and brothers) in the revolt of Nicea and Prousa but in spite of his failure Andronikos I Komnenos did not punish him.
On September 11, 1185, while Andronikos was absent from the capital, his lieutenant Hagiochristofhorites tried to arrest Isaac but he killed Hagiochristophorites and took refuge in Hagia Sophia.
Andronikos had many enemies among the inhabitants because although capable was sometimes cruel. Isaac won the favor of the people and thus began a revolt in Constantinople against the authority of Androkos, who upon returning saw that Isaac had proclaimed himself emperor and that the city was against him. The old emperor tried to flee but was captured, given to the multitude, tortured and publicly humiliated and murdered in the most cruel manner imaginable on September 12 of the year 1185.
