"I am the door; if any one enters by Me, he will be saved." (St. John 10:9)
"He opened the door of faith to the Gentiles." (Acts 14:27)
The Jews have a custom of tacking a little box called a Mezuzah on their doorposts that contains inside it this verse from Holy Scripture written on parchment: "Hear, O Israel, the Lord (is) our God, the Lord is One....write the words of God on the gates and doorposts of your house"
(Deuteronomy 6:9) Each time they pass through a doorway, they touch it and then bring their fingers to their lips showing reverence to God.
We, too, generally pass through many doorways within the course of a day - so many in fact that we almost fail to even notice them. Today's gospel lesson and reading from the Book of Act both call our attention to the one door that we must specifically be aware of; for this Door –
Christ – opens directly to Paradise and the mysteries of eternal life!
Fr. John
