“Praying always with all prayer and supplication…” (Ephesians 16:18)

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication…” (Ephesians 16:18)

Christians turn to God in prayer for a variety of reasons: to offer worship, confess our sins, ask for forgiveness, to thank God for His manifold blessings, to ask for things for ourselves, and/or to entreat our Lord for the needs of others. The Hebrew and Greek words translated as “supplication,” mean “a request or petition,” so a prayer of supplication is asking God for something. However, unlike prayers of petition, which is praying on behalf of others, the prayer of supplication is often a request for the person praying.

Fr. John
