Q: What is the difference between a cross and a crucifix?

A: Simply put, a cross is the plain form of what our Lord was crucified upon, while a crucifix generally has a three-dimensional relief of Christ's body ("corpus" in Latin) affixed to it. The term crucifix stems from the Latin words, cruci fixus meaning, "[one] fixed to a cross."

Fr. John
