“Wait for one another.” (1st Cor. 11:33)

“Wait for one another.” (1st Cor. 11:33)

With regards to worship, Paul instructs the people to “wait for one another” so that everyone might be present when services begin. The intent was a call for Eucharistic unity. However, it also places the onus upon believers to show up at appointed services and to be “on time.”

Too often people trapse into church late Sunday after Sunday, for no other reason than their own laziness, insensitivity, or lack of respect for what we are trying to accomplish. They treat corporal worship as something one “attends” rather than participates in. Every member of the Body of Christ is integral to the celebration of the Divine Liturgy whether they realize it or not. When you are absent, or arrive late, it has an impact upon what everyone else in your parish family is trying to do.

Arriving late to a party might be fashionable, but not so in our call to worship Christ.

Fr. John
