“They went out and preached that people should repent.” (Mark 6:12)

“They went out and preached that people should repent.” (Mark 6:12)

To repent means to change one’s mind (metanoia in Greek) yet goes much deeper. True repentance entails not only a change of mind, but also the change of one’s heart. Thus, repentance is not only the intellectual acknowledgment of sinfulness, but the emotional and spiritual change of heart; promising to “turn” from our past indiscretions and live according to God’s desire for us. It means regretting our past life and promising to abide by God’s Law and Commandments, showing forth with His love in all things. Therefore, repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of action to change one’s life.

Fr. John
