December 2 is the day of the celebration of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All who Sorrow.
This miraculous image of the Queen of Heaven was the cell shrine of the founder of the Russian St. Andrew's Skete on Athos, Hieroschemamonk Bessarion. Previously, according to legend, it belonged to the former Patriarch of Constantinople, Athanasius III. The glorification of this image took place in Russia, in the Vyatka province, in 1863, when Hieromonk Paisios arrived in the city of Slobodskaya of this province from Athos, bringing with him the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All who Sorrow." This image was decorated with a rich silver and gilt riza with a diamond crown on the head of the Mother of God. It was placed in the convent of the Nativity of Christ, in the Church of the Nativity.
When Hieroschemamonk Paisios was about to return to the Holy Mountain, from the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos a miraculous healing of an 18-year-old mute youth took place, after which a real pilgrimage began to the icon. Many suffering pilgrims received healing and comfort in their sorrows from the holy image in those days.
In addition to the Most Pure Mother of God, the icon depicts the Holy Great Martyrs George the Victorious and Demetrius of Thessalonica on horseback, Saint John the Baptist and the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian, Saints Anthony, Euthymius, Onuphry, Savva the Sanctified, Saints Spyridon of Trimifuntsky and Nicholas the Wonderworker. The image is decorated with several rizas, one of which is golden.
