" 'Knock and ye shall find . . . ' [Matt. 7:7]
" 'Knock and ye shall find . . . ' [Matt. 7:7] At times there is despondency, anxiety, darkness in the heart, every kind of human hopelessness. And in that moment there is prayer: it is somehow unbelievable to the natural man that anything can be done. But we should not, we may not, think like this: God is all-powerful, and prayer is all-powerful. It makes the impossible possible, it resolves the unresolvable in an unexpected, at times completely nonhuman, way. The Lord was not lying when he said: knock and ye shall find. And to the work of prayer we must also add courage in prayer, confidence in the feasibility and in the fulfillment of every prayer that is consequential and worthy. The fact that prayer is heard—this is always verified in the heart. The one praying somehow knows this, and a prayer that is heard is always fulfilled in one way or another; it is only necessary to entrust its fulfillment to the Lord. And it is evident that the fulfilling of prayer is an unceasing miracle of God’s mercy, and then all of life becomes a miracle . . ."
