“Let these words sink down into your ears.” (Luke 9:44)
Following many of His parables and teachings, Jesus often gave a somewhat mysterious instruction: “He who has ears, let him hear” (Luke 14:35). Firstly, all people, unless born with a deformity, have ears, so Jesus was addressing all of humanity regardless of age, ethnicity, language, or status. Secondly, He couches this statement referring not to the physical sense of hearing, but spiritually; listening with one’s heart.
The Holy Prophet Isaiah foretold this exact same sentiment as he proclaimed, “Listen, listen to me…Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live.” (Isaiah 55:2-3)
