“Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? (Matthew 18:21)
“Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? (Matthew 18:21)
Our Lord preached that His followers are obligated to forgive. He answers this question by saying we should forgive always, and then He reinforces this fact by including the act of forgiving in the Lord’s Prayer.
Some people might view forgiveness as a weakness by letting someone seemingly “win” or “get away with” what they have done. Yet, forgiveness has no connection to weakness or even emotions. Instead, it is an act of will…divine will and love. To forgive someone takes great strength and courage, rising above and letting go of the histrionics of an offense to promote healing and reconciliation.
Fr. John
