Feast of the Beheading of St. John the Forerunner
John was the last in a long line of prophets which prepared the Hebrew People for the arrival of the Messiah: “A voice crying out in the wilderness” (Isaiah 40:3). He was an authentic prophet, bearing witness to the truth without compromise. He denounced transgressions of God’s commandments, even when it was unpopular amongst the people, or the powerful who were guilty. And like all the other prophets through time, his service was sealed with martyrdom.
O Holy Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptizer John, pray unto God for us!
