Miracles of Saint Nicholas recounted by Saint Silouan
"Father Roman, son of Father Dosithei, told me that when he was a little boy, he had to cross the Don River in winter, and his horse fell into a hole in the ice, and the sleigh went under the ice. The little boy cried out, 'Saint Nicholas, help me pull the horse out!' and he pulled on the reins, and so he pulled the horse and the sleigh out from under the ice.
And Father Matthei, who was from the same village as me, used to tend his father's sheep as a child, like the Prophet David. He himself was no taller than a sheep. His older brother was working on the other side of a large field: suddenly he saw wolves rushing towards Misha—that was Father Matthei's name in the world—but little Misha cried out, "Saint Nicholas, help me!" and as soon as he cried out, the wolves turned back and did no harm to him or the flock. And then for a long time in our village they laughed and said, "The wolves frightened Misha greatly, but Saint Nicholas delivered him."
And we know of many instances when the saints immediately come to our aid as soon as we call upon them. From this it is clear that our prayers are heard by all the heavens."
From the book "Saint Silouan the Athonite" (author Saint Sophrony)
