Christ is Risen!
"Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him." (Luke 24:30-31)
As two of our Lord’s disciples were walking on the road to Emmaus, they encounter a “stranger” and invite him to travel, stay, and eat with them. When this unknown individual sits with them at table and blesses and breaks the bread, “their eyes were opened” and they recognized that this was no stranger, but their Master, Jesus Christ.
This is a key moment because this simple, familiar act of how Christ routinely blessed, broke, and distributed bread – which reached its apex during the Last Supper right before Jesus was betrayed, arrested, abandoned, and crucified – solidifies the Eucharistic element of the Church’s worship.
