The Bible is not simply a collection of stories and verses to be accepted and memorized once for all, but the living voice of God speaking to us again and again, taking us deeper into the inexhaustible riches of His Wisdom and Love.
Therefore, there is no greater tragedy in our Church than the almost total ignorance by her members of the Holy Scriptures and, what is worse, an attitude of total indifference towards them. What for the Early Church Fathers and Saints was endless joy, interest, spiritual and intellectual growth, is for so many Christians today an antiquated text with little to no meaning in their lives.
A significant aspect and "spirit" of Great Lent is the hope that we will recover the reading and study of Holy Scripture as a true spiritual food by which we commune with God.
