With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” (2 Peter 3:8)
“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” (2 Peter 3:8)
When St. Peter wrote this verse in his epistle, he was not making up new doctrine, but referring to the already established dogma of God and time as reflected in Psalms: “For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night” (Psalm 90:4).
Humans, set within the confines of Creation and bound by the limitations of time, experience time on a linear plane, while God, existing “outside of time,” is not constrained by the human measurement of time: hours, days, weeks, years, centuries, or millennium.
Fr. John
